Part Time Preschool Assistant Teacher
Job Summary
We are a small, play-based preschool focused on self-directed play, time outdoors, process art, emergent child-based curriculum, and community. We are a half day program that serves children ages 2.5 – 6 years old.
We are looking for someone who is fun, passionate about kids and play, creative, enjoys the outdoors, and is well-informed of the benefits of nature and play on child development and the methods to incorporate both.
Responsibilities
- Assist in creating age appropriate play invitations inspired by the child’s interests
- Engage with and observe children
- Create and maintain a safe, warm, welcoming, and organized/clean classroom environment
- Enforce clear and consistent classroom expectations previously set with children
- Help guide children’s behavior using connection-based discipline
- Work collaboratively with lead teacher and other classroom teachers
- Able to communicate well verbally and in writing
- Build collaborative relationships with parents
- Assist in maintaining communication with families via Brightwheel app
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED
- At least 1 year relevant teaching experience (lead or co-teacher for ages 2-6)
- Interest in and knowledge of the play-based philosophy and nature-based play
- Possess a love for working with children and partnering with families
- Knowledge of age-appropriate behaviors, connection-based discipline, and social-emotional development
- Interest in and physical ability to spend the day outdoors
- Ability to assist in creating play invitations based on children’s interests
- Clear background check
- Positive references
- Physical and TB test
- Ability to work up to 20 hours a week
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience in a play-based environment
- Education and/or training in early childhood education and/or play-based philosophy
- Familiarity with Reggio Emilia practices
- CPR and First Aid Training Certification
